Brand:
The general trademark of a manufacturer by which the consumer knows its products. A manufacturer can have multiple brand names. Some manufacturers license their brand names to other producers.
Allied Telesis
Product name:
Product name is a brand's identification of a product, often a model name, but not totally unique as it can include some product variants. Product name is a key part of the Icecat product title on a product data-sheet.
Rapier G6 Layer 3 Switch
Product code :
The brand's unique identifier for a product. Multiple product codes can be mapped to one mother product data-sheet if the specifications are identical. We map away wrong codes or sometimes logistic variants.

Category
A switch is a device with which it is possible to connect computers into a (local area) network, provided your computers all have an appropriate networking device installed. Switches can be daisy chained to form larger networks and come in managed and unmanaged variaties. The unmanaged versions generally cannot filter data and will forward any data that is fed into them, so they are better suited for small networks. Switches are easy to set up (just plug in the network cables) and allow you to share printers, storage space and other network resources with your entire home or office network.

Data-sheet quality: created/standardized by Icecat
The quality of the product data-sheet can be on several levels:
only logistic data imported: we have only basic data imported from a supplier, a data-sheet is not yet created by an editor.
created by Allied Telesis: a data-sheet is imported from an official source from a manufacturer. But the data-sheet is not yet standardized by an Icecat editor.
created/standardized by Icecat: the data-sheet is created or standardized by an Icecat editor.

Performance
Allied Telesyn’s Rapier family of Gigabit Ethernet Layer 3 switches delivers an unprecedented level of integration, feature richness, and
switching performance at affordable prices. With wirespeed Layer 2 switching and wirespeed Layer 3 IP routing on all ports, these switches
are designed for high performance workstation connectivity, power workgroups, and server farm aggregation or back-bone applications.

Flexibility and Scalability
All Rapier Layer 3 switches feature two optional uplink slots that can be individually configured with either a 1000BaseSX, 1000BaseLX, or
1000BaseT interface module. This flexibility provides high-speed connectivity in wiring closets, server farms, or campuses with fiber or
copper cabling. Additionally, all Gigabit ports can be configured as port trunks for greater bandwidth and load sharing.

Rich Feature Set
All Rapier Layer 3 switches include a suite of advanced Layer 2 switching features such as IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.1p traffic
prioritization, and IGMP snooping to optimize network performance. The switches include Layer 3 IP Static Routing, RIP, RIPv2,VRRP, and OSPFv2 dynamic routing protocols. The optional full Layer 3 software upgrade provides a set of additional routing protocols, such as IPX, AppleTalk, DVMRP, PIM-DM/SM, and RSVP for more advanced networking applications.

Redundancy
The Rapier family of Layer 3 switches provides redundant operation with an optional Redundant Power Supply (RPS). If the internal power supply fails, the external RPS provides power to the switch. Also, Port Trunking and the Spanning Tree Protocol provide redundant links
for failure protection. OSPF and VRRP routing protocols support redundant routes as well.

Management
Although the Rapier family of Layer 3 switches is easy to install and configure, an extensive range of management support is provided. Switch management support includes Web-browser, SNMP, RMON, Telnet, and a Command Line Interface, controlling switches via a variety of mechanisms.
