Its 64 kbit memory chip offers 16x the amount of memory currently available on a premium MiniDV cassette. This memory chip also contains multi-search logic that allows users to access different sections of the tape as they would a DVD. This is accomplished through thumbnail image replication of all recorded frames on the tape.
