DPP-FP55 - Digital Photo Printer

Sony Digital Photo Printer 300 x 300DPI photo printer:
The official marketing text of Sony Digital Photo Printer 300 x 300DPI photo printer as supplied by the manufacturer
Your memories deserve PictureStation™ prints. Sony’s compact DPP-FP55 delivers lab-quality photo prints at home, in about 70 seconds -- with advanced dye sublimation technology that captures over 16 million colors. You can make borderless 4” x 6” or 3-1/2” x 5” prints for framing, mounting or sharing with family and friends. You can print from Cyber-shot® or other cameras with PictBridge™ compatibility1, print directly from either Memory Stick® or Secure Digital (SD) media -- and use the printer’s built-in intelligence to eliminate red-eye effect, crop photos or adjust contrast and other creative features.

Fast, Cost-effective Color Printing
Sony’s compact DPP-FP55 can produce lab-quality color prints quickly, easily and cost-effectively at home, office, even while traveling -- so you never have to take film or media to photo labs to print images, only to get back prints you didn't really want or need.

Built-in 2" LCD for Simple In-Printer Editing
The DPP-FP55’s bright 2" LCD1 also lets you perform image enhancements and refinements before printing. You can reduce red-eye effect, crop images for creative composition, adjust image sharpness, brightness and contrast and other creative features.

High Output Speed
Sony has designed highly sensitive print paper for faster output with the dye sublimation process -- and the DPP-FP55 can create a full-sized 4" x 6" print in about 63 seconds from your memory card, or about 70 seconds from a direct PictBridge™ connection2 to a Sony Cyber-shot® camera.

Advanced Dye Sublimation Process
Sony’s dye sublimation printers can print 256 shades for each of three dye colors -- cyan, magenta and yellow. All together, that adds up to 16,777,216 distinct colors for each pixel, creating beautiful, vivid color prints. By comparison, a 4-color inkjet printer can reproduce 16 distinct colors for each dot. Even a high-cost 7-color inkjet printer can reproduce just 128 distinct colors per dot.

Superior Color Gamut
Sony dye sublimation photo printers actually have a superior range of colors compared to conventional silver halide chemical-process photo prints, especially in reds and yellows -- for creating prints with vivid, natural colors that standard film prints can’t match.

SuperCoat2™ Coating Durability
Sony PictureStation™ printers fuse an incredibly durable protective laminate coating to each print -- protecting the surface from fingerprints, moisture and color fading so color photos can remain bright and beautiful, year after year.

Convenient PictBridge™ Printing
When you connect a PictBridge™ compatible camera to a Sony digital photo printer, you can use the camera’s LCD monitor to preview pictures, select the ones to print and start printing. The printer acts under the control of the camera -- and eliminates the need to turn on a computer, download images from a digital camera, and then transfer files to a printer.

Choice of Print Sizes & Types
The Sony DPP-FP55 gives you a choice of ways to share your pictures: borderless 4" x 6", or economical 3-1/2" x 5" size that prints even faster. You can also make prints on borderless 4” x 6” stickers.

Multi-Media Capability
If you’ve already invested in high-capacity flash memory cards, the DPP-FP55 is the digital printer for you -- because it supports the two most popular types of flash media with a direct card-slot - Memory Stick® and Secure Digital™" media

Sonys DPP-FP55 dye-sub photo printer is the better-specified version of two recently announced postcard-size printers from the company. It varies from the slightly cheaper FP35 by adding a colour 2in LCD screen and a media card reader.
The DPP-FP55 is stylish and fast. Its a good photo printer, but it isnt cheap to buy or run. The inkjet photo printers in this months group test are great if you need one printer that can cope with photos and everyday plain paper jobs. If, however...
