Originally priced at £1,000 when it first appeared, you can now pick up the BD-P1000 for approximately £700 (John Lewis). Many online retailers have this 1080p-capable Blu-ray player (that can also upscale regular DVDs to 1080p) on sale for under £500...

Blu-ray is exciting, and the Samsung BD-P1000 is an excellent introduction to it. I would just implore Samsung to upgrade the unit to provide 1080p24 output.
Good Excellent support for high definition video via Blu-ray. Better performance with DVDs than most DVD players.
Bad The Blu-ray player needs a 1080p24 output mode to eliminate jerkiness in pans. Should be able to switch off HDMI audio output.
Bottom line Blu-ray is exciting, and the Samsung BD-P1000 is an excellent introduction to it. I would just implore Samsung to upgrade the unit to provide 1080p24 output.
